Many people that have retired find that they need to do something to do to stop their boredom or loneliness. A large number of retirees look for some kind of job that they can enjoy and have fun with. We’ve put this list together to help give you an idea of some of the jobs that can be fun and engaging for senior citizens. These are only a handful of jobs and there are countless other options available.

This is a great job for those that love writing and creating. In addition to finding a traditional publisher, there are many platforms available that can let you self-publish for a fraction of the price. You could also choose whether you want your work to be a physical book or you can offer digital versions only. The pay is going to vary wildly from person to person, so this job is best for those that already have some kind of adequate income, such as a monthly retirement or social security check.

Rescue/Shelter Employee

Another great job for senior citizens is one where you can work in some kind of shelter or rescue like the humane society. These places usually have a large number of pets that need to be taken care of. If you work in this field, some of the things you’ll be doing include feeding and watering, playing with the animals, and taking them for walks. It can be hard to see the animals in these situations, but it can be very rewarding at the same time.

Delivery Driver

In these times, it seems like more and more people are ordering food for delivery. With this being the case, working as a delivery driver can be extremely lucrative. In addition to being able to be your own boss, you can also meet new people and see some fantastic scenery. There are a few options to choose from, including working for an actual restaurant or you can sign-up with one of the many app-based platforms that work with multiple different restaurants. Keep in mind, some of these platforms will also offer pickup and deliveries from a select number of stores.

If you’re a senior citizen that has knowledge to share, then becoming a tutor or teacher could be quite fulfilling. Most academic teaching positions will require you to have some kind of schooling, but you could teach things that you’re passionate about like crocheting or gardening. While tutoring will also have requirements, they don’t usually require you to have as much schooling as an academic position. When applying or inquiring about a position, make sure you ask what’s required so you’ll know if it’s worth it to apply.

Becoming a nanny or babysitter is great for those senior citizens that love kids. One thing to keep in mind is that this type of job might not be great for those that have certain illnesses that affect the mind, like dementia or Alzheimer’s. There are a few ways you can find open positions, which include applying to a childcare provider, apply through a government agency, or starting your own business. Each of these types will have different requirements, so make sure you know what you’ll need to do or provide.

While it isn’t for everyone, many senior citizens find that retail jobs are great for them. Some jobs in retail require a lot of physical labor, so they might not be great for older people. Some positions that could be great include cashiers, door greeters, and general positions on the floor. The great thing about the jobs in this category is that they don’t require a lot of experience or schooling, and they don’t have to take too much effort.

One final job that could be great for senior citizens is a florist. While it helps to have some kind of previous knowledge or skill, it’s not required because many places will offer hands-on training. You can let your creativity out and play an important part in many people’s celebrations or events. If you don’t have much knowledge or skills with arranging flowers, it’s a good idea to start in a position with an actual florist. If you do have skills and knowledge or have been working in the field for a while, you might find that you’re ready to open your own shop.

While some of these jobs will require a certain amount of experience or schooling, there are plenty out there that don’t require any of these things. The best thing to do is think about what you love and see what jobs are related to it. Once you have a little list going, you can check out places around you and see if they have any openings. You might find that you love your new job more than any other job you’ve had.
